A mass shooting on the campusUniversity of Nevada, Las Vegas (UNLV), United States, left three dead and a fourth person wounded by gunshot.
The alleged perpetrator of this Wednesday's shooting at the University of Nevada was a 67-year-old university professor who also collaborated with universities in Georgia and North Carolina.
Hesheriff Kevin McMahill, said toCNN that the identity of the shooter would not be revealed until his family has been notified of the death. The man was shot dead by campus police outside Beam Hall, home of Lee Business School.
The shooting occurred at noon on December 6 when a student meeting was taking place outside an important hall. One of the university police officers responded to the call for help and thanks to his quick action, the lives of many people were saved.
In addition to the four victims who receivedbullet impact, there were four people who had to be transferred to hospitals with symptoms ofpanic attacks and two law enforcement officers sufferedminor injuries.
The person who survived the impact of the gunshots arrived at the hospital in critical condition but his condition is improving and he is now reported as stable.
Thepolice investigation remains open. Las Vegas authorities are seeking a motive for the altercation and said they had no details yet to offer about the weapon the suspect used.
Students were on campus preparing for finals before enjoying winter break.
Keith Whitfield, president of UNLV, said in a statement that they will always remember and honor those injured and killed by this terrible event.
"My heart breaks for the many students, faculty, staff, parents, loved ones and community members who endured hours of painful uncertainty as officers made sure our campus was safe and secure again," Whitfield said.
Heshooting at the University of Nevada, in Las Vegas, is the 80th at an American school this year.
In February, a mass shooting occurred in theMichigan State University which left three dead and five seriously injured, a situation that forced campus activities to be canceled for 48 hours.
Las Vegas It is the same city that suffered the worst mass shooting in modern US history in 2017.
