Two Cuban brothers beat an elderly man to steal money and other valuables in Hialeah

The elderly victim of the robbery is 88 years old.

Two brothers of Cuban origin were arrested after beating and robbing an elderly man at gunpoint in his own home in Hialeah.

More than $2,200 in cash, two firearms, a cell phone and a gold chain with the image of Santa Barbara was what those involved took from the home after searching the entire house where they remained for at least 50 minutes. .

The robbery occurred around 10:30 am on December 4 on Fourth Avenue and 11th Street in East Hialeah.

The thieves have been identified as Cristian Franchi Torres, 26 years old, and Andry Alberto Torres, 37.

“Tell me where the $10,000 you have is and we'll leave right away or else I'll kill you. That was their phrase,” he explained in statements to America Camel Julián Chávez, victim of the robbery.

The 88-year-old man explained that the subjects took advantage of the fact that he left his home for a moment and left the door ajar to enter the house.

“They had masks, caps on backwards and you couldn't see their faces. "I shouted 'Maruchi!' to a neighbor who lives next door, but they punched me and hit me with the gun," the victim added.

“The 'fat guy' had the gun, the other one was searching everything and didn't find anything,” added Julián Chávez.

Those involved entered and left through the back of the patio and demanded that the victim give them the keys to a small warehouse, from which they took the cash and the two firearms.

“That's where my son left me money when he was sleeping and I took it,” said Chávez, who is now nervous and even afraid to open the door.

The old man explained that he said he had to urinate, he went into the bathroom and didn't come out again. He says that when he didn't hear any noise he called the police.

The neighbors have been shocked by the theft, which they consider an abuse.

“They were set up for him only. They should have their punishment for doing that to a poor old man who is there sick at home and doesn't come out, doing that to him shouldn't be. He doesn't get out of there, unless the son comes and takes him out of the car. That car is his and he doesn't use it,” said a neighbor.

The criminals were identified thanks to home surveillance cameras in the area.

The police identified numerous conversations between the two arrested in the days before the robbery, in which they exchanged information and images of the home.

This Thursday the two Cubans appeared before the county criminal court, charged with trespassing and resisting arrest. Both were denied bail.
