Relatives of political prisoners begin intermittent fasting on the eve of Christmas Eve

On Christmas Eve, relatives of political prisoners in Cuba began intermittent fasting as an act of solidarity and to spiritually connect with their imprisoned loved ones.


The Cuban guyLuis Wilber Aguilar Bravo announced that it is carrying out a 24-hour fast starting at 12 midnight this Sunday, in solidarity with all thepolitical prisoners and in favor offreedom of cuba, of which he expressed “he is not going to have a real Christmas Eve.”

Aguilar, who is thefather of Walnier Luis Aguilar Rivera, sentenced to 23 years in prison for participating in the July 11 protests in La Güinera, has highlighted in abroadcast on Facebook that its purpose is to connect spiritually with the more than a thousand political prisoners that the Cuban regime has locked up in its prisons.

My heart will be with the political prisoners. Many of them know it,” he expressed in his video, where he also said that he knew that his fast was not going to solve his freedom, but spiritually it is an accompaniment that he will provide for them.

“I am going to do it with all faith… It is a way to accompany them in pain…It's a way for them to know they are not alone.”, he noted.

He also said that his wife told him that she was not going to make any food, knowing that her son in prison was going to be drinking water with sugar.

The father commented that he will be accompanied on this fast by his sister Ailet, who also joined in defending the cause of the political prisoners and especially that of her son.

Finally, the Cuban added that the night is not going to be good either for the prisoners or for any Cuban "although they want to feel good about the division, the separation of families”.

The last friday,Relatives of Cuban political prisoners gathered to express their pain and demand the release of the 11J protesters on the island.

The meeting brought together mothers, fathers, wives and husbands of some young people imprisoned for protesting on July 11 and 12, 2021 in Havana, Mayabeque and Artemisa.

The international community has reiterated, on several occasions to the Cuban authorities, itsrequest for the release of political prisoners who remain in the regime's prisons.

Prisoners Defender, a non-governmental organization, recently reported thatIn Cuba there are 1062 political prisoners, the majority protesters from the anti-government protests of 11J.

Between thethere are 34 minors prisoners, 121 women, and223 9/11 protesters imprisoned for the crime of "sedition."
