Driver loses control of his car and overturns on the Havana boardwalk

The vehicle overturned very close to the United States Embassy in Havana.

The driver of a car lost control of his vehicle and overturned on the Havana boardwalk, near the US Embassy this Thursday.

"Does anyone know about the accident that occurred a while ago near the American embassy? A modern white car overturned, they say it was a woman who was driving," said a user in the Facebook group Bus and Truck Accidents.

Internet user Adrián Más confirmed that he was in charge of towing the accident car. He did not offer details about the identity of those involved but assured that there was no loss of life and that the injured people only received minor injuries.

In 2023, 8,556 traffic accidents occurred in Cuba. 5,938 people were injured and another 729 died.

Colonel Roberto Rodríguez, head of the Specialized Traffic Body in the country, he noted that it was the year with the fewest accidents. Official figures show a 13% reduction in accidents and a 7% reduction in injuries, compared to the previous year. However, the death toll increased compared to 2022.

Rodríguez pointed out that "the human factor is responsible for 91% of these events." In 60% of the accidents, 48% of the deaths and 66% of the injuries, were caused by not paying attention to controlling the vehicle and not respecting the right of way.
