In Cuba, electric motorcycle fires while carrying out their charging process have been frequent in recent years, leaving in their wake a wide trail of material damage that unfortunately in some cases has led to injuries or deaths.

Although in recent months reports on social media of such incidents seem to give indications of a slight decrease in the number of cases, it still remains a frequent problem throughout the country.

In one of the fatal events of this type, in September of last year the explosion of a motorbike battery unleashed a raging fire in the area known as Casitas de Kohly, in Vedado, Havana, andclaimed the life of a 15-year-old teenager and injured 18 other people.

That was one of themore than 300 fires originating in vehicles with lithium batteries which were suffocated by firefighters in 2023, according to Major Jercy González Longo, specialist in the Extinction Department of the Cuban Fire Department (CBC).
