The Havana authorities gave an update on the damage caused by the strong storm that hit the territory from Friday afternoon to Saturday morning, and which caused flooding and damage to basic services.
As reported on Saturday at a meeting of the Task Check Group (GCT), in the preliminary report, 18 total home collapses were recorded, less than the 27 that were reported in the first information.
There were also 207 roof collapses, five of them total.
The Cotorro municipality was the most affected (151), followed by San Miguel del Padrón (26), Arroyo Naranjo (18) and Boyeros (13).
Partial collapses were also recorded in Old Havana, although the inventory of possible damage had not yet been completed, as in Boyeros, Centro Habana and Plaza de la Revolución.
Regarding the damage to the electrical system, the director of the provincial Electric Company, Mario Castillo Salas, reported that as of the afternoon, 58 circuits were still damaged, of which 25 had to be repaired in the last few hours, including those that feed the sources. water supply as well as two affected hospitals.
The repair work will continue this Sunday, for which there is the support of 20 brigades of linemen who left from four other provinces.
For his part, the general director of Aguas de La Habana, Leonel Díaz García, stated that the recovery of the 32 damaged supply systems continues. Ariguanabo and El Gato are already active and the breakdowns in Cuatro Caminos, Paso Seco and Los Benignos remain to be resolved.
The general director of ETECSA also reported that the meteorological event left 2,413 landline telephone lines unusable, in addition to downed poles and other damaged infrastructure.
Finally, it was learned that the delivery of standardized bread is guaranteed in the 15 municipalities, as well as the sale of three pounds of potatoes per consumer corresponding to the month of March.
Information on how many customers were still without power was not updated Saturday afternoon. The preliminary report showed a figure of 120,000 in the capital alone, out of a total of 270,000 by adding those of Pinar del Río, Mayabeque, Artemisa and Matanzas.
In Havana there were places where more than 300 millimeters of water fell in 24 hours, which which caused heavy flooding in some municipalities, mainly in Diez de Octubre, Cerro and San Miguel del Padrón.
