They arrest a suspect who robbed a store in Hialeah while trying to escape to Cuba

Three men stole more than $1.8 million from the store.

Cuban José Carlos Solano Montelier, a suspect linked to the robbery at the Macy's store in the "Westland" shopping center in Hialeah last year, was arrested this week at Miami International Airport when he tried to escape to the island.

After months of intense search, authorities managed to capture the suspect of being involved in an assault with masks at the Macy's store, where they stole items that were initially estimated at $500,000, reportedAmerica TeVe.

Eddy Rodríguez of the Hialeah Police Department reported that Solano was trying to board a flight to Cuba when he was detained by authorities at the airport.

Solano Montelier, 33, appeared in court the next day to face the charges against him.

Rodríguez highlighted that the man already had a history of similar criminal activities and that he now faces serious charges for a$1.8 million felony.

A judge denied him bail.

The robbery took place between February 10 and 11, 2023 and was captured on images. Macy's then offered a $10,000 cash reward in the hopes that someone would recognize the robbers.

Surveillance video showed three suspects violently breaking into the store and looting it for more than three hours.

With the capture of Solano Montelier, all those involved in the robbery have been arrested.

The judge denied bail to the defendant due to the main charge oftheft of a considerable amount, so he remains under arrest.

Additionally, he has been held on bail of more than $500,000 for three other charges.
