A 25-year-old man was arrested this Tuesday accused of an attempted robbery with a knife that he committed in a cigarette and tobacco store in the city of Hialeah.

The man, identified as Edwar García, on April 10, dressed in black and masked, entered the Cigarrettes El Flaco cigarette and tobacco store, located at 351 East 49th Street in Hialeah, and demanded that the employee give him handed over the money from the cash register, threatening her with a knife.

The shop assistant, however, managed to thwart the robbery by spraying pepper spray in the face of the thief, who was forced to escape.

“Once outside, we were able to see through a surveillance camera that he began to take off his clothes because obviously the itching of that pepper spray that they sprayed on him forced him to take off his mask,” explained Eddie Rodríguez, spokesperson. from the Hialeah police.

However, although the incident occurred on Wednesday of last week, it was not until this Tuesday that the police managed to arrest him.

After identifying him, the authorities verified that the detainee was a regular customer of the store and that he had already caused problems in the past.

José Luis Rodríguez, a worker of Cuban origin at a business near the place where the incident occurred, recognized the accused and indicated that in his opinion he is a young man who has problems, while calling for more security.

“There are places that close late here, there should be more security, especially for the little girls who stay alone here at night. “My wife works at a Subway and the same thing happens to her,” he said.

Although the shop assistant managed to avoid the robbery thanks to the use of pepper spray, police spokesman Eddie Rodríguez advised against fighting with a person who is armed, much less over property.

Until the closing of this note, Edwar García remains detained in the TGK prison without the right to bail.
