Girl in therapy at Pinar del Río hospital needs medication

A Cuban woman is asking for help on the Internet for an eight-year-old girl who is admitted to a hospital in Pinar del Río, where there is no medication she needs.

The little one is called Angela Gabriela Hernandez and is located in the therapy room of the Pepe Portilla pediatric teaching hospital.

Irelis shared the photo of the medicine. This is Intraglobin F, which is used to restore the levels of Immunoglobulin G (the antibody that is most abundant in the body), generally when the patient has an infection.

More and more Cubans are turning to social networks to find missing medications in the country's network of pharmacies and hospitals.

Less than two weeks ago, the case of a child who suffers from epilepsy and schizophrenia and who had not taken any medication for more than 10 days.

The boy's name is Emmanuel Hernández and in addition to these two chronic ailments he suffers from Cornelia de Lange syndrome, a genetic disease that affects many parts of the body, and he needs to always have two medications available: clonazepam and risperidone.

A cousin of the minor shared a video on Facebook in which you could see the poverty in which the family lives.

Last July, the government acknowledged that 251 nationally produced medicines were missing, which represents 40% of the basic table.

In March of this year, ruler Díaz-Canel affirmed that the shortage of medicines and medical supplies will continue, and criticized negative trends in the sector such as "the sale of services."

"Given the lack of supplies and medicines, the best response we can give to our population in such difficult times is the quality of services, with shortages, we are going to have them, we are going to continue with a lack of medicines," he said.
