Two motorcycles collide on a dangerous corner in Santiago de Cuba

Two motorcycles collided this Friday on a dangerous corner ofSantiago de Cuba, causing injuries to people involved in the accident, according to a report published on social networks.

“A few minutes ago a traffic accident was reported to me, where apparently there are injured people, on San Francisco street on the corner of Calvario, in the heart of Santiago de Cuba,” he indicated inFacebook the independent journalistYosmany Mayeta Labrada.

The intersection of San Francisco and Calvario streets is known by the Santiago population due to the high number of accidents that occur in this central corner of the city, whose traffic is regulated by traffic lights.

"Until now the exact details of the incident are not known, but in images it is seen how two motorcycles are lying on the street and a person is lying on the ground," the journalist said.

According to the user identified on Facebook asJorge Luis Goite Peláez, the corner where the accident took place has seen other incidents recently.

“It's my block, I've seen more crashes than anyone can imagine. Yesterday this one, and the day before another with two engines. The problem is that the drivers do not want to respect that street, and they continue on without caring about the traffic lights. I saw this crash because I was outside talking and I observed the speed of the motorcycle when it passed and hit the motorcycle. They call this corner 'The Corner of Death,'" he said.

Another woman from Santiago claimed to have witnessed the accident, and assured that the four occupants traveling on the two motorcycles suffered injuries.

“I was coming from the front and I only felt the impact. Everything was fast. The most injured are the pilot, who was left half twisted and bleeding, and the passenger, who could not get up. All four without loss of consciousness. Thanks to the action of the people and a passing officer, they were taken to the hospital, since indolent drivers continued on without providing help," he said.

Several Internet users left their comments about the dangerous corner of Santiago de Cuba. “There is too much recklessness on the road and, at that traffic light, not everyone respects the lights”; “That corner is made of firewood. “I, with the green one, stop and look”; “That corner is deadly. What a way to have accidents there!”; “People don't understand that that corner is extremely dangerous and that you have to walk with the utmost care there,” they said.

“I'm from there and they've always called it 'The Corner of Death', because there have always been accidents there. So, if there is a traffic light, I don't know why the accidents continue on that corner," said the user identified asSusana Shaddai Toledano.

“That corner is the sweeper of death. Be very careful, drivers,” said one of dozens of commentators who appealed to the caution of those traveling on the streets of San Francisco and Calvario.

In June of last year,two private passenger transport trucks suffered damage after crashing at the intersection of Calvario and San Francisco streets.

In August 2022,two people were injured after the collision on the same corner of a Jeep against a Fiat. Versions on social networks indicated that one of the two drivers did not respect the 'Stop' sign and that the traffic lights were off.
