Ramiro Valdes Menendez, veteran leader of the Cuban revolution, arrived this Sunday at the age of 92, supported by the high command of the regime and its official publications.

The first of them was that of the designated Cuban rulerMiguel Díaz-Canel Bermúdez who overflowed with praise for the soldier, very close to the brothers Fidel and Raúl Castro.

“A big hug for the dear Commander Ramiro Valdés, a true revolutionary, a guerrilla at all times, an example for all of us and a person whom I love and admire very much,” Díaz-Canel said on his social network account X.

For his part, the Secretary of Organization of the Communist Party of Cuba (PCC), Roberto Morales Ojeda, expressed that “it is an immense stimulus to have your example and support.”

The Cuban Prime MinisterManuel Marrero Cruz, went a little further in his congratulations and noted that it was extended to “our people and Government.”

“Thank you for your teachings, your example, dedication and commitment to the Homeland,” said Marrero Cruz also from X.

Valdés is considered one of the “historic four” of the Cuban regime, next toRaul Castro Ruz (92), José Ramón Machado Ventura (93) andGuillermo García Frias (95), all nonagenarian combatants in whom the imagination of the Revolution is anchored.

Over the years, Valdés has been both praised for his commitment to the Cuban government and criticized for his methods during his years in the Ministry of the Interior, of which he was minister on two occasions:between 1961 and 1988 and from 1979 to 1985.

His legacy is seen variously inside and outside of Cuba. Valdés Menéndez has held the honorary military rank of Commander of the Revolution since 1976 and is currently Vice Prime Minister of Cuba.

He was also head of Information Technology and Communications (2006 and 2011), a role in which he stood out for limiting Cubans' free access to technological advances and the Internet. However, histwitter account (current X) shows activity by time intervals, without being systematic.
