Between dreams and challenges: Cuban in Spain faces the challenge of finding a rental

Recently arrived from Cuba to Galicia, she struggles to find an affordable rental in Ribeira while maintaining the hope that this place will become the setting where her dreams come true.

The Cuban Anais Fleites, a native of Havana and with Spanish nationality, arrived in Galicia looking for a new life, but has encountered an unexpected obstacle, the difficulty of rent an apartment where to live.

Despite the barriers, Anais remains optimistic and convinced that the city of Ribeira will be the place where she can finally fulfill her dreams.

In statements to The voice of Galicia, explained that since her arrival in Spain five months ago, she and her 21-year-old son have lived first in Santiago de Compostela and now in Santa Uxía.

During this time, his son found employment at a local bar. However, for the mother, having a steady job has meant a greater effort, despite being willing to gain experience in areas in which she had not previously worked.

"I am registered in all the real estate agencies and I can't stop desperately looking for a rental"says Anais, reflecting the reality of many who come to Galicia with the hope of finding a place to live. "I don't know what to do, because it seems that all there is is vacation rentals," she adds.

In this sense it is very important for newcomers to Spain choose well the city where you will live. Some cities are very focused on tourism, they are beautiful, but they have job offers that vary depending on the seasons of the year and the same goes for home rental options.

Anais's family is not yet complete in Spain. Her husband and youngest son are still in Havana, waiting for the necessary permits to reunite. This Cuban mother must save money in a context in which the economy is not always the most favorable.

Despite the challenges in finding suitable housing, Anais is deeply grateful to Maricarmen, the owner of the hostal Coral, who has provided them with a temporary place to stay. "Thanks to her we have a place to live," said the Cuban.

Anais' determination is not limited to searching for a rental in Spain, has also explored various opportunities to generate income. She participated in a Netflix series and was selected for the Royal Spain Senior, a fashion and image competition in Santiago de Compostela.

"All the dreams that I could not fulfill in Cuba come true in Galicia", he affirms with hope. His daily struggle reflects his courage and that of many Cubans who, despite the difficulties, continue forward, looking for a place in the world to prosper.
