Mexican authorities on Thursday detained 407 migrants who were abandoned in three tourist buses in the state of Veracruz.

The National Migration Institute issued a statement in which it details that those arrested come from seven countries in the Caribbean, Central and South America, and none could prove their regular stay in Mexican territory.

In the group there were 264 adults traveling alone, of which 12 were Cubans. The rest were Dominicans, Ecuadorians, Guatemalans, Hondurans, Salvadorans and Nicaraguans. All were transferred to the Acayucan immigration station.

Another 91 people were traveling as part of family units (30 women, 15 men and 46 children under 18 years of age). In addition, 52 children and adolescents were alone. These 143 migrants were taken to the municipal "Grow, Trust and Wait" shelter of the System for the Comprehensive Development of the Family (DIF).

The 407 people were traveling in unhealthy conditions in the three buses when they were abandoned to their fate on the Minatitlán-Acayucan highway, where they were detected by federal and state security elements.
