The US denies rumors about changes on the border with Mexico

Rumors that the US-Mexico border will open in May are false, the US warns.

The US government warned migrants this Saturday that rumors about an alleged opening of the borders during the month of May "are completely false."

A statement from the Border Patrol (CBP) emphasizes that "there are no changes in United States immigration law or in the application of border controls".

"Rumors circulating on social media that the US-Mexico border will open in May are completely false," he said.

CBP explained that "laws remain strict" and that "there are consequences for anyone who enters the borders illegally" at ports of entry.

It details that it is possible that the migrants are returned to their country of origin if it is quickly determined that they are not eligible for asylum.

Also warn that smugglers are not interested in your safety and only want to make profits and encourage you to use legal means to enter the country.

On April 29, the presidents of the United States and Mexico announced that they will adopt immediate measures to "significantly" reduce irregular migrant crossings on the border between both countries.

They also committed to "promote initiatives to address the root causes of migration" and noted that "increasing prosperity and security" in the region is crucial to addressing the long-term migration crisis.

Cubans are among the migrants who continue to enter the United States irregularly. The number of those who arrived during the first quarter of this year is higher than that of the same period in 2023.
