Prominent university professor who died in Russia is fired in Guantánamo

The professor served as Dean of the Faculty of Russian Language at Guantanamo University.

The posthumous tribute to the professor Raul Hernandez Heredia of the University of Guantanamo will be held this Monday, after family and friends receive the mortal remains from Russia, the country where the professor died.

"Today his mortal remains will arrive at Guantanamo from Moscow, where he was undergoing medical treatment and unfortunately, died of pulmonary thromboembolism”he said on his news page at Facebook journalist Miguel Reyes Mendoza.

Likewise, he assured that The body will be located at the La Nueva funeral home from 8:00 p.m., while the funeral is set for tomorrow.

According to the Facebook user Zulema Matos Columbié, the mortal remains of Professor Hernández Heredia arrived in Havana on Sunday afternoon.

The woman thanked the “Guantánamo University, students, professors, alumni, co-workers, the Government, all her friends, for being by her family's side to ensure that this stage could be completed.”

He trusted that “you will always be in the hearts of thousands of people who loved you, your smile remains as a seal of guarantee to continue moving forward in everything possible.”

Raúl Hernández Heredia died in Moscow last Tuesday, April 30. They describe him as a scientist and Doctor of Geographic Sciences graduated in the USSR. With a career in various higher education institutions in Guantánamo. In addition, he was Vice-Rector for Research, Postgraduate Studies and International Relations of the former University of Pedagogical Sciences.

His current position was Dean of the Faculty of Russian at the Guantanamo educational institution.. He was also a member of the National Court of Educational Sciences of the eastern part of Cuba.
