Cubans banged pots and pans in protest against blackouts in Camagüey

A cacerolazo was also reported in Las Tunas.

Residents of the Cuban province of Camagüey staged a cacerolazo in the early hours of Saturday after almost 20 hours without electricity service, local independent media reported. Cuba Time.

According to the publication, a cacerolazo was reported in the Nuevo Salomé neighborhood, where residents spent 20 hours in a blackout. In the area, the chorus of "Current and food!" was heard, while citizens were banging cauldrons, a witness said.

The media points out that the Nuevo Salomé district suffered two blackouts yesterday. The first since 5:45 a.m. until 9:45 p.m. and the second from just over 10:00 p.m. m. until almost 2:00 a.m. m. this Saturday.

The cacerolazo occurred during this last blackout and broke up when a police patrol arrived in the area. There were no arrests according to the news portal.

Camagüey was precisely the Cuban province with the most blackout reports in the last 24 hours according to a interactive map produced by CyberCuba.

In that town there were 389 reports of blackouts of an average of 8.5 hours in the last day, the majority in the main city (231 reports of 9.4 hours).

In Florida there were 48 reports and blackouts an average of 4.5 hours; while in Guáimaro there were 17 reports and failures in the electrical service for an average of 5.8 hours.

A woman from Camagüey confirmed that in "Camagüey the service was not possible at any time", because in her circuit there were "20 consecutive hours of blackout, 20 HOURS and at 6:00 am they already removed it again," she denounced.

"Enough of living a parallel reality, it is inconceivable that my son wakes up and falls asleep without seeing the "light" and that in his vocabulary of only 5 years the terms of deficit, circuit and electric plant are already incorporated. It is hard, very hard. that after not sleeping you have to face the day with a hot refrigerator and burning offers," said the indignant woman.

A resident in that province also said on Facebook that in his neighborhood there was a blackout for 6:45 p.m. on Friday, during which a mother's food she bought with all her salary rotted, an elderly woman who was bedridden had to be taken to the sidewalk and A mother with a newborn girl had to breastfeed her in the middle of the street due to the unbearable heat inside the homes.

The ruler Miguel Díaz-Canel said upon returning from a trip to Russia in search of help for his regime that the energy situation on the island is an emergency and that he did not rule out citizen protests such as those he has repressed in recent years.

In the early hours of the morning, a pot-bang was also reported in the neighboring province of Las Tunas.
