Cubanism: Young person reveals the most typical phrases of Cuba

The influencer highlights the use of Cubanisms in the speech of young people, emphasizing colloquial expressions such as "la pincha" and "mata'o".

A young influencer has posted a video on social media exploring "cubanismos," typical expressions from the island that only natives or those very familiar with its culture can fully understand.

The official journalist Elizabeth Cánovas, who in the past starred in a short clip criticizing the lack of expression in the press, shared a video on Instagram where she asks people about the typical phrases of Cuba.

In a clever wordplay, the young woman starts each dialogue with the phrase: "The Cuban doesn't say..., the Cuban says...," and in this way she interviews several people, who provide the corresponding Cuban expression for each saying.

In the video, some colloquial terms such as "la pincha," "mata´o," "la fiana," "facha´o," "emperrao con esa jeva," "engancha´o," and others emerge.

The use of these terms is usually more common among young people, a practice that has both critics and defenders.

According to the Cuban writer María Luisa García Moreno, in the article "Misuse of language or bad education?", published in Cubaperiodista, this way of expressing oneself arises from the "communicative needs specific to their age."

This intellectual considers it "normal" that over time, young people increase their lexical wealth by using increasingly complex structures.

"And so, the cycle begins again: new generations will adopt youth slang and yesterday's young people - now adults - will criticize them... That's life," he pointed out.
