Miami Police arrested the suspect of killing an elderly man in front of his 11-year-old granddaughter during a failed robbery in an apartment in Little Havana.

The detainee was identified as Carlos Manuel Rosales, 38 years old, who is married to a sister of the minor's mother. The girl was alone in the house when her brother-in-law entered to rob.

The incident occurred on Thursday around 8:30 am on the 700 block of Fifth Street Southwest.

The arrest report describes that Rosales, who lives near the residence, covered his face completely and entered the apartment. The girl heard him and called her mother, who in turn alerted the girl's grandfather, who came to her aid.

The mother calls the grandfather because the grandfather only lives a few houses from here, and he comes running to assist her, and when he enters the apartment, he finds that the suspect was still inside the house," Miami Police spokesperson Mike Vega explained to Telemundo 51.

The suspect shot the man in the stomach and then ran out into the street, got into a white Toyota Tundra pickup truck, and fled. Thanks to the surveillance cameras in the area, he was identified and captured that same afternoon.

After being shot, the man, named Luciano Matute, 62 years old, collapsed down the stairs. He was assisted by his neighbors and taken to Jackson Memorial Hospital, where he died shortly after.

Subsequently, the police discovered that Rosales has also sexually abused two girls, so charges of second-degree murder are added to those of lewd sexual abuse of minors and lewd exhibition of minors.

At this moment, he is at Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center and his bail has not been set.

The spokesperson for the Miami Police Department reminded people of what they are always told in such situations.

It's okay to call mom, dad, a friend, or a neighbor, but before doing so, call 911. Let us be the ones who put our lives at risk to save yours," advised.
