The stellar Cuban boxer Yordenis Ugás celebrates his 38th birthday this Sunday, July 14, and, true to his style, he posted on social media some words of gratitude for the people who love and admire him.

"Happy birthday to me. Thanks to God for another year of life... nothing to ask for, today is a day that I just want to give thanks for the most valuable thing we have, which is life," wrote the former professional world champion in the art of Fistiana on Facebook.

Likewise, the renowned activist against the communist regime of his native country once again demonstrated to be a grateful person: "Always thankful to all of the #TeamUgas family, which is all of you. God Country Life Freedom."

Born in the province of Santiago de Cuba in 1986, Ugás achieved solid performances in a short period of time during his amateur career. Among many other medals, he won the bronze at the 2008 Beijing Olympics and the title at the 2005 Mianyang World Championship, as well as at the 2006 Central American and Caribbean Games in Cartagena and the 2007 Pan American Games in Rio de Janeiro.

In search of greater achievements, he emigrated to the United States in March 2010. Once at the highest level, he achieved very significant successes, including the one that some consider the most important in the history of Cuban boxing: defeating the legend Manny Pacquiao.

It is very common to see Yordenis support causes in which Cubans are involved to promote a change in the Cuban government, as well as to comment on US politics through his social media channels.

In fact, the resident in the city of Miami, Florida, expressed a few days ago his desire for former President Donald Trump to have Cuban-American Senator Marco Rubio as his running mate in his reelection campaign.

In their opinion, if Trump wins, he should appoint Rubio as Secretary of State, which is an ideal position for him.

"It would be fantastic for me, and I believe for our country, especially for our communities who are suffering, humiliated, and beaten down by communism," said the boxer on his Facebook wall.

Ugás stated that the representative from Florida is super prepared politically and intellectually, and claimed that Vice President Kamala Harris holds her position only because she is a woman and black. "And she is being remembered more for laughing at every issue than for her work."

The dictatorships of Cuba, Venezuela, and Nicaragua were against the wall. The senator must be one of the people who understands these topics and dictatorships the most. These dictatorships will fall, and millions of people will be turning to our countries to try to live not in wealth, but with a bit of dignity in our country," emphasized the athlete.

Personally, Yordenis Ugas would like to see a Hispanic vice president in the United States.

And most importantly. Because I am 200% pro-Cuban. I will always support my artists, my athletes, my community above all. Because our wine is bitter, but it is our wine," he concluded.
