A Cuban residing in Texas is on the run from justice after having murdered his former partner, a young Cuban woman, in a hotel in the city of Greenville, northeast of Dallas.
The victim, identified as Myladis Ramírez, 28 years old, was strangled by her ex-partner Pedro Ríos, 44 years old, at the Express Inn & Suites hotel, early Friday morning. After this, the man fled, according to information released by the crime reporter Niover Licea.
Ramírez was a mother of two young children, who were left in the care of her family in Cuba when she emigrated to the United States over a year ago. The young woman lived in Havana, in the Lutgardita neighborhood of Boyeros municipality.
In Texas, he worked for a company that installed solar panels and lived in the city of Houston. He was in Greenville for work reasons and was staying at the mentioned hotel.
On the night of the crime, Ríos arrived at the scene and entered the facility around 2 in the morning, according to the images captured by security cameras and sent to Licea by people close to the victim. Hours later, he left the hotel.
During the morning, family members and coworkers tried to get in touch with the young woman, but they did not receive any response. It wasn't until the afternoon that her body was found by a hotel employee who entered the room to clean it.
According to Licea, Ríos had been released from prison approximately a month ago, where he had been incarcerated for assaulting his first wife, with whom he has a son. Additionally, the individual was arrested last year by the Texas police for driving a vehicle with a fake license plate.
The authorities requested collaboration to locate the fugitive and urged anyone with information to report it to Crime Stoppers.
Milagros Ramirez, the victim's sister, shared the news of her death on Facebook, while thanking many people for their concern. "Good evening, everyone, I inform you that my beautiful little sister Myladis is no longer with us. I just want to thank everyone for caring."
He also asked for help from anyone who can collaborate with money, "to bring her back home. I will not have enough time in my life to thank you. We just want to have her with us one last time," he expressed.
Relatives and friends of Ramírez started a campaign to raise funds in order to repatriate the young woman's body to Cuba, so that her family can say their final goodbyes. "Today I ask for help from anyone who can donate something, whether it's 1, 2, 3, it will be greatly appreciated. Please, help that devastated family," said a friend of the deceased in a video on TikTok.
Last Saturday another Cuban man murdered his wife in Tampa, Florida. Liannet Sosa Santos, 31 years old, from the town of Sietecito, in Sagua La Grande, Villa Clara, and mother of a five-year-old girl, died at the hands of her husband, Silvio Ramón Franco Peralta, 35 years old.
