Donald Trump is officially nominated as the presidential candidate at the Republican Convention.

Even though for months the former president has been the virtual candidate, this Monday his nomination was officially formalized in Milwaukee, where the Republican event is taking place.

After receiving the votes of enough delegates at the Republican National Convention, former President Donald Trump will be the official candidate of his party to compete in the upcoming presidential elections in the United States.

Although for months the former president has been the virtual candidate, this Monday his nomination was officially formalized in Milwaukee, where the Republican event is taking place.

In this way, Trump, 78 years old, will compete in his third consecutive election, having been the winner in 2016 and the loser in 2020. He will once again face Joe Biden, the current president of the United States, on November 5th.

Trump reached the necessary threshold with the votes from his home state of Florida, Telemundo 51 reported.

Since the last Super Tuesday, held on March 5th, Trump had been left as the sole candidate of his party heading towards the Convention taking place this week.

This Monday, the magnate also announced his running mate in the presidential race. Through the Truth Social network, he announced that Ohio Senator J.D. Vance, a 39-year-old young man who is also a businessman and writer in addition to being a politician, will be the vice-presidential candidate.

"After lengthy deliberations and reflections, and considering the immense talent of many others, I have decided that the most suitable person to assume the position of Vice President of the United States is Senator J.D. Vance, from the great state of Ohio," Trump stated.

The Convention - which began with a prayer and the national anthem - will last until Thursday and has reserved an absolute role for the president, following the attack suffered last Saturday during a rally in Pennsylvania.

During the event, Trump was hit by a bullet in his right ear.

The attacker, a 20-year-old young man identified as Thomas Matthew Crooks, shot from the roof of a building located about 140 meters from the stage where Trump was speaking. After being shot down by Secret Service agents, a semi-automatic AR-15 rifle was found near his body.

At the scene of the event, and as a result of the shots fired, former firefighter Corey Comperatore, 50 years old, died while using his body as a shield to protect his wife and daughter from the bullets.

It is known that two other people were injured and were in stable condition.

They were identified as David Dutch, 57, from New Kensington, Pennsylvania, and James Copenhaver, 74, from Moon Township, Pennsylvania, according to the Pennsylvania State Police.
