With a 15-hit attack and excellent starting pitching, the Leñadores de Las Tunas thrashed the Vegueros de Pinar del Río (9-1) on Sunday in the first day of action of the final playoff of the 63rd Series of Baseball in Cuba.

At the Capitán San Luis stadium, the visitors, reigning champions of the competition, showed no mercy against the leader of the regular season and took the lead in pursuit of reclaiming their crown.

The pitcher Eliander Bravo, owner of the victory, achieved a quality start, having completed six innings with only one run and four hits against one of the best offenses in the tournament. Rodolfo Díaz earned the save with three innings pitched.

A different story was lived by the opener for the pativerdes, Mario Valle, who barely lasted two-thirds of an inning on the mound. The left-hander allowed three runs in the first inning and finished his outing early.

This time, the pitchers from Pinar did not manage to stop the powerful Eastern lineup, and six of their flamethrowers took the mound at the sports facility.

Without a doubt, the success of the tuners is vital, as during the round-robin phase they lost 1-4 in the “dual meet” against their current rivals, although the postseason - it is always said - is a “clean slate” or “a different story.”

Contrary to what usually happens, both teams will not return to the field tomorrow, as the Cuban government declared this Monday a National Mourning for the death of the General Secretary of the Communist Party of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam, Nguyen Phu Trong.

In this way, the second match will take place on Tuesday at Capitán San Luis itself.
