A flight from Madrid to Havana last Sunday was diverted to Miami due to the bad weather in Cuba, which did not allow for the safe landing of the plane.
According to a post on Facebook by user José Alfonso Almora, the intense rain over the José Martí airport area forced the diversion of flights to Miami coming from the Spanish capital.
The Iberia aircraft flew over the airport terminal in Havana but ultimately diverted to the city of Florida.
When accessing the website flightradar24, a live flight tracker that displays air traffic, you can see the plane's path after circling for about 20 minutes without being able to land in Havana.
In Miami, he stayed for about an hour and a half until he departed for Cuba. He finally arrived in Havana at 9:45 PM, about five hours later than expected.
In the comments section of the post, a firefighter from Havana revealed that the aerial operation had no complications, and there was "neither fright nor fear."
"Simply, José Martí Airport was operating under minimal weather conditions. It happens to any airport. And Matanzas was in the same conditions. And they were diverted to one of their alternative airports, that is, Miami," he detailed.
A Cuban resident in Spain specified that her aunt was on that flight.
"In Cuba, there was a storm and the airport was flooded with water, and they were not allowed to land in Matanzas or in Cienfuegos because the storm was nationwide, so they were given clearance to land at Miami airport as they were about to run out of fuel. The flight landed in Havana at 9:43 PM; its scheduled landing time was 4:30 PM, but due to the storm, it was not possible, and it circled above the Isle of Youth for a long time," he said.
