Cuban professional boxing champion Yordenis Ugás expressed his hope for the opposition's victory in the presidential elections taking place this Sunday in Venezuela and considered that the Venezuelans looking for change after 25 years of Chavismo "are a beacon of hope for all lovers of freedom."
"A historic Sunday is coming. Venezuelans have the most important elections in their history tomorrow. They are a beacon of hope for all lovers of freedom. I hope they turn out for all these things and for all the political prisoners they have. Go Venezuela, go. The whole world, especially Cubans and Nicaraguans, will be watching. God bless you," wrote Ugás on his social media.
In a video shared on his X account, the boxer and Cuban civil society activist expressed his excitement during this decisive time for the future of Venezuelans who want to oust the dictator Nicolás Maduro from Miraflores, and for all the peoples oppressed by dictatorships and leftist populisms.
"In the name of decent Cubans, I want to apologize to Venezuelans because that sick and perverse system that has hit you for the last 25 years was born there in Havana," he said.
At the same time, the champion of 'Patria y Vida' encouraged them to vote, "because you have the opportunity that we have not had in 64 years. I know there are traps, but the dictatorship has been cheating since it prevented María Corina [Machado] from running and prevented eight million who are in exile from voting."
"Tomorrow [this Sunday] they will cheat, but the difference in votes will be so great that they won't be able to make it add up," predicted Ugás.
Additionally, he asked Venezuelans to go out and vote "for the millions who have gone into exile, for the dead from the protests of 2014, for the dead from the protests of 2017, for the murder of Oscar [Alberto] Pérez and his soldiers, for the six years Leopoldo [López] was imprisoned, for the old man who has nothing to eat...".
"Tomorrow is your day. The lovers of freedom will be praying for you. God bless the Venezuelan people and may starting tomorrow you be able to build a Venezuela where one can live with dignity," he concluded.
