A young Cuban, just 22 years old and identified as Henry Javier Pueblas, died this weekend in a tragic traffic accident in Mexico while waiting for his appointment with CBP One to enter the United States.

In the incident - of which no details have been disclosed nor the exact location where it occurred - his girlfriend was injured, according to crime reporter Niover Licea on social media.

"Javi" -as he was known among his family and friends- was originally from the municipality of Bartolomé Masó, in the province of Granma, and had arrived in Mexico in early May to move forward with his dream of emigrating.

In recent days, the young man's acquaintances have expressed their shock on social media over his loss.

"Little God, please tell me this is a lie. Why you, my little black one? Why? I only ask God to keep you in his best kingdom. You have no idea the pain your departure has left. Excellent son, brother, and friend. We are going to miss you, Javi. A kiss to heaven," wrote Adriana Torres in an emotional message.

"Javi, I still can't believe it. I still think this is all a misunderstanding. We will always remember you as that cheerful, lively, and impressive boy, and everyone loved you," wrote Doraidis Moreno Yero.

The young man's friends are asking for help to repatriate his remains to the island.

A petition on the fundraising platform GoFundMe has set a goal of $15,000, of which they have raised $5,130 up to the closing of this note.

In the last two years, unfortunately, there have been several reports of traffic accidents involving migrants, including Cubans, as they travel by land toward the southern border of the U.S.
