A Cuban photographer was assaulted in Havana last Thursday, and the thieves started asking him for money to return his cell phone.

"I was mugged and my phone with two lines was stolen. They are calling my contacts to ask for my information, please don’t say anything," warned Carlos Rodríguez on his Facebook profile.

Rodríguez indicated that the assault occurred "at the very door of the Cira García," International Medical Clinic, located on Avenida 41, Playa municipality.

"Then they are calling me and my contacts, asking for my home address, landline phone number, and if I am Argentine," he said in the comments section.

The affected person described the incident as "a chapter of Tras la Huella based on real events," referring to the program on Cuban Television that highlights the work of the police on the island.

Even Álex Castro Soto del Valle, son of the dictator Fidel Castro, commented on his post warning that "you're getting careless" and suggested, in a Cuban tone: "Get on this."

"We are now in the final chapter of the story of Tras la Huella under the name 'El Argentino,' don't miss it, finally recovered always with the help of friends and the Operations Group of the Beach Police," he noted in another post where he shares an image holding his phone.

He particularly thanked the police and wished that they could "catch the entire gang," pointing out that "many of us experience this daily and it cannot go unpunished."

The rise in crime being experienced in Cuba has forced many families and private businesses to take measures to prevent or document the incidents, such as installing surveillance cameras or reporting on social media.

A few days ago, the moment was captured when, in broad daylight, a thief stole two bicycles from a house in the Playa municipality, in Havana.

The comedian Limay Blanco has been one of the voices raised to denounce the increase of theft and crime in Cuba. Recently, he did so regarding the theft of a mobile phone from a bus that happened to a friend of his.

It was reported that a thief, captured by the police, climbed to a second floor, entered a house, and stole a laptop in the Playa municipality.
