The Santa Clara Bombers, a team representing Cuba in the Little League World Series held in Williamsport, Pennsylvania, suffered their first defeat of the tournament, losing 10-2 to the Asia-Pacific representative, Chinese Taipei.

The Cubans started strong in the game, scoring two runs in the first inning after a hit with the bases loaded. However, the Asians gradually decreased the deficit and ended up victorious.

For those from the island, Yans Espinosa opened up and pitched three scoreless innings, until in the fourth inning he issued a walk, the fifth of the game, and allowed his fourth hit, and due to a fielding error, he permitted the first run of his opponents.

In his place came Denis Zamora, but he lasted little on the mound, leaving two runners on base before leaving.

Next, Alejandro Vázquez came in to try to rescue the game, but after issuing a walk, he allowed a home run by Chiu Wei-Che that cleared the bases and decided the game.

In the last at-bat opportunity for the Taiwanese, they scored another five runs that defined the final score. Reliever Lai Cheng-Xi was the winning pitcher of the game.

The Cubans, who in their first match defeated the representative from Europe-Africa, Czech Republic, will face the Mexico team at 5:00 p.m. in a challenge where the loser will be eliminated from the competition.

The day before, the Cubans were visited by Major League player Andy Ibáñez, who said he felt proud of the Cuban representatives.
