One of the injured in the accident at the cement factory in Cienfuegos that occurred last Tuesday has suffered new complications in the last few hours.
Dionel Figueroa Calunga, 52 years old, who has been reported as being in extreme critical condition since he arrived at the hospital due to having 70% burns, has experienced problems with his heart and lungs.
In the medical report on Saturday at 6:00 pm, Dr. Soraya Izaguirre Hernández, head of the burn unit at the Dr. Gustavo Aldereguía Lima provincial hospital, explained that Figueroa Calunga showed hemodynamic instability (inadequate blood flow to the organs).
The other three hospitalized patients are showing favorable progress. Two of them received the necessary care with no complications in the treatment.
On Friday, the two injured workers who are in better health condition stated that they were feeling better.
"The burns hurt less, thanks to the care we have received from the doctors; the medications have been what we needed, the ointments, the cleaning of the burns," said Carlos Aguilar Sabina, 33 years old and reported as less serious.
For his part, Hermes Rojas Campos, 52 years old and reported in serious condition, praised the doctors who have not left his side, "and thanks to God many of us have improved."
Doctor Soraya Izaguirre Hernández revealed that the coworkers of the four burn victims donated blood to the hospital bank for them.
"We have needed some blood derivatives, but really the response from the colleagues has been very good and the patients know it because we have told them, and that has made them very happy," he emphasized.
On Wednesday, the fifth injured person in the factory accident was discharged. His name is Alexei Aguilar Valdes, 53 years old, who had burns on 5% of his body and was able to return home after receiving treatment.
On Tuesday afternoon, an explosion occurred at the Carlos Marx Cement Factory in Cienfuegos, leaving one worker dead, five injured, and three others trapped, allegedly due to the explosion causing a hopper to fall that kept them imprisoned until firefighters rescued them.
The deceased has been identified as Raymundo Narciso Sarría, 61 years old, who worked as a Cuban electrician for the Engineering Construction Company No. 6 (Ecoing-6).
