Neighbors of La Rosita in San Miguel del Padrón apprehended a suspected criminal who tried to steal a cellphone in broad daylight.
The incident occurred on Tuesday, September 17, when three individuals attacked a young man who was passing through the area. They struck him hard in the face in an attempt to snatch his mobile phone, detailed the profile close to the Ministry of the Interior (Minint) "El cubano fiel" on Facebook.
According to the publication, residents of the area who witnessed the attack chased the assailants.
Two of the attackers managed to escape, but the third was caught by the population.
The captured individual was held until the neighbors contacted the police by calling 106, and shortly thereafter, a patrol officer arrived at the location to proceed with his arrest, it explains.
The authorities are already investigating to locate the other two thieves.
In recent years, as the economic, political, and social crisis in Cuba has worsened, there have been repeated reports of cell phone theft.
Last year, a young man from Holguín was attacked with a machete by two men who stole his phone, and he is still suffering the consequences of this aggression that has left him unable to walk and fend for himself.
