A taxi was destroyed after being hit by another car and overturning, in a dramatic accident that occurred on Vía Blanca, in the area of the Beaches of East Havana, at dawn this Sunday.
According to reports published on Facebook, after six in the morning, a rental car from the company Taxis-Cuba was hit by another car, whose driver fled the scene, in the area of El Trébol, at Santa María del Mar beach.
As a result of the collision, the taxi sustained severe damage and ended up overturned on its roof. However, despite the seriousness of the damages, its occupants - the driver and a passenger - only suffered minor injuries, according to family members and witnesses.
"He's my husband, everyone is fine, just minor injuries, thank God. It happened at 6:25 am, the car that caused the accident drove off, but luckily only the damaged car," reported Shey Figueredo, the driver's wife, in posts shared in the group "Accidentes Buses & Camiones por más experiencia y menos víctimas!".
Another person specified that it is a driver from agency 2 of the state company, named Yandy, and he was taken to the Naval Hospital in the east of the capital.
Last Friday, also on Vía Blanca, but in the area of the Alamar ascent, a bus from the state company Transmetro ended up flipped over after skidding on the wet pavement and leaving the road. The driver only suffered minor injuries, according to a family member.
One day earlier, another traffic accident left five people injured, including a pregnant woman, when a passenger transport truck covering the Havana-Santiago de Cuba route lost control after a tire exploded and overturned on the Central Highway, near Guáimaro, in the province of Camagüey.
Official statistics recorded a 13% decrease in traffic accidents (543 fewer) in Cuba during the first half of the year compared to the same period in 2023. However, incidents on the country’s roads and streets continue unabated, and the frequency with which they occur and their fatal consequences are concerning.
