The Cuban painter Richard Somonte, who has been living in Madrid, Spain for five years, dedicated a work to the popular Cuban reggaeton artist José Manuel Carbajal Zaldívar, known as "El Taiger," in a gesture of admiration and support.
On the social network Instagram, the artist explained that although he does not know the singer personally, they share great mutual friends and that he has always regarded him as "a good guy."
Somonte, known for his portraits of iconic figures, expressed that the song El Secreto, by El Taiger, was a fundamental part of one of the most significant moments of his life.
This detail inspired him to pay tribute, acknowledging the impact that the reggaeton artist has had not only on urban music but also in the lives of many followers.
The painter, whose work blends references from pop culture and history, has created portraits of figures such as the bullfighter Manolete and the reggaeton artist Chocolate MC, always with a baroque and extravagant touch, according to the digital site Yucabyte.
He is also known for his affinity towards the libertarian ideas of Argentine president Javier Milei, to whom he dedicated a portrait at a ceremony at the Real Casino in Madrid.
However, his recent tribute to El Taiger reflects a more personal connection, demonstrating his respect for the figures that influence his artistic and emotional life.
This new portrait is a demonstration of Somonte's versatility and his ability to connect with different cultural universes, from urban music to politics and the history of art.
El Taiger remains hospitalized at Jackson Memorial Hospital in Miami, Florida, after being shot in the head on Thursday.
