The police militarize vigils for the health of El Taiger in Santiago de Cuba.

On Avenida Los Pinos and the Santiago Malecón, people gathered to pray for the health of El Taiger.

The Cuban police militarized the vigils for El Taiger, which spontaneously took place in several parks in the city of Santiago de Cuba this Saturday night.

The uniformed police managed to disperse a gathering that was happening in the Parque del Reparto El Caney, while in other areas of the city, these meetings were able to take place, where youth predominated.

According to the police officials told the attendees: "there was no government authorization to hold the vigil," reported independent journalist Yosmany Mayeta Labrada on his Facebook profile, pointing out the authorities' fear of popular discontent manifesting due to the energy and food crisis facing Cuban society.

Avenida Los Pinos and the Santiago de Cuba Malecón were indeed the scenes of these vigils, although many arrived at these places "with candles hidden in their bags and pockets, fearing the police would detain them, until they began to group together one by one and hold the vigil," described Mayeta Labrada.

In images and videos shared, one can see how people chanted and danced to songs by El Taiger, while also placing candles in front of an image of the Virgin of Charity of El Cobre, Patroness of Cubans.

The communicator also stated that he had reports of vigils in Bayamo and in Boyeros. The same happened in Guantánamo, where hundreds of people took to the streets on Saturday and walked along a central street in the city.

The Cuban reggaeton artist José Manuel Carbajal Zadívar, 37, artistically known as El Taiger, was shot in the head last Thursday and has been in critical condition at Jackson Memorial Hospital in Miami since that day, where he underwent surgery. The case remains under investigation.

Members of El Taiger's work team who have been with him during these days have reported that the artist is "stable" although still in critical condition.

"I was with Taiger all day today. He is stable, still in critical condition, but with God's favor, he will be with us soon. Please keep praying for him. It's all I ask with all my heart," they have commented.
