Manuel Milanés is honored by the Police for his heroic actions to save a woman and her children in Florida.

The Cuban influencer and opposition member Manuel Milanés was honored by the Collier County police in Florida for his brave actions in saving a woman and her children.

In August, Milanés was shot in the chest when he stepped in to defend a mother and her children who were being mistreated by the father of the family, who did not hesitate to shoot him.

Last Monday, fully recovered from his injuries, the economist and businessman was honored with the Sheriff’s Appreciation Award from the county.

"It has been a great honor to receive today, October 7, the Sheriff’s Appreciation Award from Sheriff Kevin J Rambosk," he revealed on his Twitter account.

It is an annual event that recognizes exceptional service and community contributions by those who respond to prevent a crime or assist a victim.

"Thank you for dedicating and risking your lives to protect our community," the Sheriff expressed.

The plaque given to Milanés states that his actions that day demonstrated an act of bravery.

"He did not take into account his own safety and put himself in imminent danger, with the possibility of dying, to protect the life of a woman and her children. His actions were truly heroic, and it is with great honor that the Sheriff’s Office presents the Sheriff’s Appreciation Award, based on his deeds," the distinction states.

On August 23, Milanés was at home in the Ave María area when he heard a loud noise, similar to that of a traffic accident. When he went outside to investigate, he saw a woman inside a car with two children, while an armed man was trying to get into the vehicle. She screamed for help and said that he was trying to kill them.

Milanés returned home, called the police, and grabbed his own weapon. He then went outside in his pajamas and confronted the individual; during the struggle, the person shot him and wounded him in the chest.

Subsequently, the authorities managed to arrest the suspect, identified as Hilberto Callejas, 26 years old, who now faces multiple charges for his violent actions.

Milanés's heroic act was not only recognized by local authorities but has also been widely acclaimed by the Cuban community, both in Florida and abroad. Despite having been shot and left seriously injured, he managed to survive thanks to swift medical intervention and has shown a remarkable recovery.
