The former Cuban Minister of Culture, Abel Prieto Jiménez, current president of Casa de Las Américas, expressed his sorrow over the death of reggaeton artist El Taiger, who was fighting for his life in a Miami hospital after being shot in the head last Thursday, October 3.
"Rest in peace. My condolences to family, friends, and followers," was the brief message that Prieto Jiménez shared on the social network X along with a link to an article published by the Cuban Institute of Music (ICM).
The Minister of Culture of the island, Alpidio Alonso Grau, also joined the expressions of condolences that have arisen after the death of the popular exponent of the urban genre.
"Our condolences go out to the family, friends, and admirers, both in Cuba and abroad, of the young Cuban musician José Manuel Carbajal Zaldívar, El Taiger, who passed away today in Miami, United States. May he rest in peace," reflected a post by Alonso Grau.
The Cuban government, in an extraordinary manner, joined the expressions of recovery that took place this week regarding the health of El Taiger, after he was admitted to Jackson Memorial in Miami, following being shot in the head, which kept him in critical condition until this Thursday, when he passed away at 12:40 p.m., according to official confirmations.
From the wife of ruler Miguel Díaz-Canel and official of the Ministry of Culture, Lis Cuesta, to the ultra-officialist Cubadebate, along with other institutions and government officials, they all referred in one way or another to the situation that El Taiger was experiencing in Miami. All in an attempt to appear close to the popular sentiment that rose to pray for the reggaeton artist's health.
The ICM sent its "sincere condolences" to the family, friends, and admirers of the singer, highlighting that we are witnessing the farewell of one of the most recognized figures in the urban genre, who never renounced his identity as a Cuban and always expressed love for his country."
The Union of Communist Youth (UJC) wrote a simple message that said: "Rest in peace, Cuban."
José Manuel Carbajal Zaldívar, better known by his stage name El Taiger, was declared dead this Thursday. "He has now reunited with his beloved mother in heaven," states an official statement published on his Instagram page.
"El Taiger was the feeling of the people, and now we must keep that feeling alive through his music and his legacy," they emphasized.
His songs, which became anthems for a generation, and his unique style solidified him as one of the great artists of the genre and reggaetón on the island.
