A Cuban resident in southwestern Miami-Dade was arrested after allegedly threatening his family with a firearm during a domestic dispute.

The man arrested has been identified as Yasmany Rodríguez, 37 years old, who lives with his girlfriend, his 14-year-old daughter, and his 2-year-old son near the 11000 block of 200th Street Southwest, in Goulds.

The police reported this Monday that the incident occurred on October 6 at around 7:00 p.m. (local time), according to local press.

It all supposedly started with a couple's argument that escalated to the point where Rodríguez became enraged, threw religious relics at his girlfriend, and pointed a gun at her in an attempt to intimidate her.

According to the woman's testimony, her partner demanded the location of the ammunition for his weapon and ultimately retrieved the magazine.

Authorities said that Rodríguez allegedly threatened to shoot everyone in the house while aiming the gun at his girlfriend, but he did not pull the trigger. Fortunately, no one was injured in the incident.

The police arrived at the scene, but Yasmany Rodríguez fled before they could catch him.

The woman's teenage daughter, who according to the authorities was at home when the incident occurred, told the police that she heard the argument.

Approximately at 12:08 a.m. on Saturday, October 12 -almost a week after the incident occurred- the Miami-Dade police located Rodríguez in a house near Southwest 200th Street.

The man was detained and transported to the South District police station of the Miami-Dade Police for questioning.

During the interview, Rodríguez waived his right to an attorney and denied all the charges.

Despite his denial, prison records show that Rodríguez faces three counts of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon and two counts of child abuse without significant bodily harm.

The police did not disclose the reason why the couple was arguing before the altercation occurred.

Yasmany Rodríguez was given a bail of $15,000 after his court appearance.

At the closing of this note, he is no longer listed in the records of the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center (TGK).
