The Hialeah Police announced on Tuesday the arrest of two young individuals of Cuban nationality accused of attempted murder for shooting two people in that Florida city earlier this month, as well as a previous shooting in Miami.
Yosmani Yerondy Rodríguez Granados, 23, and Dagoberto González Gómez, 22, were wanted in connection with a shooting that occurred on October 1 at 7:45 p.m. in a parking lot near the Pura Vida condominium on West 16th Avenue, Hialeah.
Meanwhile, the Miami Police were also searching for Rodríguez due to his alleged involvement in a previous incident in the city, where shots were fired at one of the same victims from his latest attack. As a result, he faces charges of double first-degree attempted murder, while González is charged with second-degree attempted murder.
According to the report from the Hialeah Police Department, cited by Local 10 News, on the night of October 1st, the two victims left the residential complex and walked to their car parked on West 29th Street.
After both of them got into the vehicle, González, who was hiding in some nearby bushes, alerted Rodríguez, who approached in his car and, from the driver's window, extended his arm and fired a weapon several times at the victims.
The bullets struck the front hood of the car, but the people emerged unscathed from the attack. Rodríguez and González fled the scene immediately.
The authorities have not disclosed the identities of the victims.
The events were captured on surveillance cameras and witnessed by bystanders. Testimonies from these witnesses, the CCTV footage, and the geolocation data from cell phones enabled the Hialeah Police to identify the suspects.
Rodríguez was arrested on Monday night without incident, and, according to the officers, he was carrying a gun in his pocket. Following his arrest, he refused to make a statement to the investigators.
However, the agents indicated that Rodríguez may be linked to the shooting that occurred earlier in Miami, where one of the same victims had been attacked. Authorities have not disclosed any further details about this incident thus far.
The police departments of Hialeah and Miami are collaborating on the investigation of both cases to determine if they are linked by a common motive and whether Rodríguez is involved in other similar incidents in the area.
Rodríguez appeared in court this Tuesday, reported AméricaTeVe, and faces two charges of first-degree attempted murder with a deadly weapon, discharging a deadly projectile, and firing a firearm from a vehicle. González is charged with second-degree attempted murder with a deadly weapon. Both are also being held on immigration-related matters.
Until this Tuesday, Cubans remained at the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center (TGK) in Miami-Dade.
