The manager of a paladar in Santiago de Cuba was murdered while on duty, marking the second homicide of this kind in less than two weeks in the city.
The crime occurred in the early hours of Saturday into Sunday at the Café Continental, located on Gallo Street, between Enramadas and Aguilera, just around the corner from the El Avileño market.
The victim was named Rodolfo Despaigne Fines and was 74 years old. According to sources revealed to independent journalist Yosmany Mayeta, he was a Jehovah's Witness and lived in the Los Olmos neighborhood.
"He retired after 40 years of work, having served as a mechanic in state-run centers in the country. Since his pension of 1,600 pesos was not enough to maintain the household, he returned to state work. Until late 2023, he found this option through some friends," Mayeta detailed on her Facebook wall.
Rodolfo was murdered by a group of young delinquents.
"They struck him in the middle of the night with a blunt object to the head, behind the ears, and then he was suffocated. No matter how much he tried to defend himself, he couldn't, because they say there were several assailants who entered through an alley at the back of the establishment," a family member recounted.
The funeral for the gentleman was scheduled for this Monday at 10:30 AM.
He was the father of a son named Ronal Despaigne Cisneros.
On Monday, November 11, the body of the guard from the state agricultural market El Santiaguero was found near the Los Ángeles clinic, on Garzón Avenue, across from the headquarters of the Communist Party.
The area was cordoned off and under a heavy military presence.
