The renowned Cuban actor Mario Limonta, 88 years old, underwent surgery early yesterday morning, which concluded with favorable results, according to the media outlet Cuba Actores, based on the testimony of Ariel Ordaz Zayas, the artist's nephew.

Nevertheless, at this time Limonta is under "intensive care" as per hospital protocols, but in "stable condition," the source added.

Limonta, originally from Guantánamo, is one of the most prominent figures in the performing arts in Cuba.

His career spans several decades of contributions to film, television, and national radio, establishing him as a cultural reference point.

Along with his deceased wife, Aurora Basnuevo, known as "La Mulatísima," Limonta left an indelible mark on the popular radio program "Alegrías de Sobremesa," where they portrayed the iconic characters Sandalio “El Bolao” and Estelvina.

Another memorable role of Limonta was that of Sergeant Arencibia in the show "San Nicolás del Peladero," where he shared the stage with great figures such as María de los Ángeles Santana and Enrique Santiesteban.

Professional activity despite his advanced age

Just days away from turning 89, Mario Limonta remains active in the artistic industry. He is currently part of the cast of two significant film productions.

The first, Stress, by director Marilyn Solaya, is currently in the sound design stage.

In that film, the actor shares the screen with notable figures such as Héctor Noas, Luis Alberto García Novoa, Verónica Lynn, Isabel Santos, and María Isabel Díaz Lago.

The second is Anonymous Neurotic, directed by Jorge Perugorría and based on the namesake work by Mirtha Ibarra.

That film, which also brings together talented artists such as Tahimí Alvariño, Bárbaro Marín, and Carmita Ruiz, among others, tells the story of Dulce Rodríguez, a usher at the Maravilla cinema.

After the news broke about the surgery Limonta underwent, numerous followers and artists have expressed their wishes for a speedy recovery for the actor on social media.
