A strong wave on the Havana seafront associated with the passage of the sixth cold front of the winter season has caused flooding in the low-lying areas of Vedado.

The strong swell generated by the northern wind has severely affected the Havana seawall, with water overflowing onto the promenade and reaching nearby streets, according to videos posted by the state journalist Lázaro Manuel Alonso.

The Cuban Institute of Meteorology (INSMET) reported that the cold front, which was located over Matanzas at 2:00 p.m., has brought with it rain, storms, and strong winds, with maximum gusts of up to 60 km/h recorded at several weather stations in the region.

In the early morning, the rains mainly affected the province of Pinar del Río, with accumulations of up to 10.4 millimeters in Santa Lucía.

Throughout the day, the cold front has continued to move slowly eastward, bringing winter weather across the region.

Temperatures in the west of Cuba have fluctuated between 19 and 22°C, while the rest of the country has recorded temperatures exceeding 30°C.

In addition to the heavy rainfall and strong winds, INSMET issued a warning about the continued presence of storm surges along the northern coast, which could further impact coastal areas such as El Vedado.

In the morning, gusts of wind were reported at speeds of up to 59 km/h in Bahía Honda, Artemisa, and 60 km/h at the Casablanca station in Havana.

As the front weakens and stalls over the west, a decrease in precipitation and swells is expected, although sea and north coast conditions will remain dangerous in the coming hours.
