The unexpected death this Wednesday of a beloved nurse from the "Mariana Grajales Cuello" Maternal Hospital while traveling on the Havana-Santiago de Cuba train has caused deep concern among hundreds of people who all agree that she was a very special person and an outstanding professional.
The deceased -identified as Silvia Rincón Pérez- was traveling in Coach 2 of the train and is believed to have passed away from a heart attack, according to journalist Yosmany Mayeta, who cited a very close associate as the source.
"Today our hospital is in mourning with the sad news of the passing of our dear friend Silvia Rincón, head of room B in our unit. Our deepest condolences go out to her family and friends," the hospital center reported on Facebook, without mentioning the cause of death.
The hospital director, Abel Suárez, also dedicated a heartfelt farewell to the employee.
"The family of the HMS Mariana Grajales Cuello is today mourning the loss of an exceptional woman, licensed nurse Silvia Rincón Pérez. There is great dismay among the collective who missed your presence at yesterday's meeting and now awakens to the news that we will no longer have you with us physically," wrote the executive.
The nurse was laid to rest this Thursday at the hospital, where her coffin was guarded in a show of respect and admiration by her colleagues.
“Farewell to our friend and sister, nurse Silvia Rincón Pérez. A sea of friends and colleagues pays tribute to you; your smile and spirit will remain forever in our hearts. Fly high, Silvita, we will miss you always.”
In Yosmany Mayeta's post about the death of Silvia Rincón, there are, up until the closing of this note, more than 2,000 messages that attest to the immense love that the deceased Cuban left in her wake.
“How much pain I feel with this news. Silvia, such a good colleague, an impeccable nurse, a wonderful friend, an incomparable mother, and so many things I can't express right now. I only ask that you rest in peace,” wrote Melaine Lazo.
"My deepest condolences to her family and to her son, who made her feel so proud. I share your pain, but stay as you are so that wherever she is, she will continue to adore you," he added.
"Silvia, such a good companion, an exemplary nurse, a great friend, an incomparable mother. My sincerest condolences to her family," said Dr. Martha Lazo.
"I am truly at a loss for words. My God, she was a wonderful person. I had the privilege and pleasure of being her colleague and even a patient in her care. An exemplary nurse, one of the very few in Materno Sur. A pioneering nurse, always cheerful, Christian, and helpful [...] Silvita, wherever you may be, surely in the arms of our Lord God, may you find eternal rest," noted in an emotional message. "You will be remembered with much love. You are in the highest place of our profession. Those of us who passed through your hands, both students, colleagues, and patients, know that we will miss you. EDP my flower, this news has broken my heart. My condolences to your family, friends, and colleagues," he concluded.
As of the closure of this report, there are no further details regarding the unfortunate passing.
