Amid the growing insecurity in the country due to the rise in crime, the police dismantled a gang that was engaged in motorcycle theft in the province of Ciego de Ávila, “using violence,” according to sources linked to the Ministry of the Interior.
Five members of the band were caught red-handed and arrested by the police on an unspecified date, according to the information published on the official profile “Avileños de Corazón” on Facebook.
The assailants, who were identified only by their first names: Julio Inocente, Ángel Luis, Kevin, Yunior, and Maikol Leandro, were stealing gasoline and electric motorcycles -known as motorinas- in the cities of Ciego de Ávila and Morón, using violent methods.
"When they were caught they were wearing balaclavas, knives, arrows with bolts, nuts, pellets, and gloves,” according to witnesses, the report specified, citing residents of the Maidique neighborhood in the capital city.
The gang stole in Ciego and transported the motorcycles to Morón, and vice versa, the text stated, celebrating the arrest of the individuals: "five less to cause harm, their means were returned to the victims."
The news was applauded by dozens of people who demand that the full weight of the law be brought down on the detainees.
