UPDATE: A small plane crashed this Friday near a shopping center in the northeast area of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, with six people on board, including a sick child.
The initial reports indicated that the accident occurred near Cottman Avenue and Roosevelt Boulevard shortly after 6 PM on Friday, in a residential area that caught fire following the impact of the aircraft.
Shortly thereafter, the authorities confirmed that it was an air ambulance with six people on board, including a sick girl and her mother, along with four medical service crew members.
"A small plane crashed in the Roosevelt Mall area after 6:00 p.m. on Cottman Avenue. We do not have reports on the number of fatalities, and we ask for prayers for those affected," highlighted Mayor Cherelle Parker.
"We ask that you stay away from this site, do not touch anything, everything is under investigation," he noted.
The air ambulance that crashed belonged to the company Jet Rescue Air.
The vessel was intended to transport the minor to Tijuana, Mexico, after having received treatment in the United States.
"This is an active emergency. Our municipal agencies are ensuring that public safety is the priority. I have already spoken with Governor Josh Shapiro and federal Senator John Fetterman," he emphasized.
Forty-five state patrol officers from Pennsylvania, 25 members of PennDOT, and volunteers from the Department of Environmental Protection attended the scene.
The incident occurs less than 48 hours after another air accident in which 67 people lost their lives in Washington.
