A Cuban with multiple criminal convictions was detained by the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) during an operation conducted in South Florida last week and will be deported.

Officials and agents from ICE, in coordination with the U.S. Border Patrol, conducted immigration enforcement operations in Palm Beach County on January 27 and 28, capturing 32 foreign nationals without legal status who have committed crimes for which they were convicted, stated a press release from the government agency.

The arrested individuals come from Cuba, Guatemala, Haiti, Mexico, Honduras, El Salvador, Venezuela, Colombia, Brazil, and Nicaragua.

One of the migrants is a 24-year-old Cuban, whose name has not been disclosed, and has a criminal record that includes fraud, theft, failure to appear in court, and violation of probation.

The ICE statement specified that the man is in custody awaiting his deportation.

The 32 apprehended immigrants have been judicially processed for charges such as drug possession, illegal re-entry, resisting an officer, theft, violation of probation, fraud (illegal use of a credit card), shoplifting, prostitution, driving under the influence of alcohol, and possession of stolen property.

"All undocumented foreigners arrested during this operation will be detained pending their expulsion from the United States or an appearance before an immigration judge," emphasized ICE.

Among those arrested is a 30-year-old Venezuelan with convictions for resisting an officer, drug possession, and theft, as well as a 25-year-old Guatemalan who has been sentenced for illegal reentry, cocaine possession, and driving under the influence of alcohol. Both remain in detention awaiting deportation.

A 44-year-old Haitian woman was also arrested, having been charged with assault, drug possession, prostitution, and possession of narcotic equipment. According to the official statement, she will have to appear in a deportation hearing before an immigration judge.

These raids carried out in Palm Beach County are part of the new policies implemented by President Donald Trump's administration following his return to power, aimed at halting illegal immigration, protecting the country's borders, and safeguarding its citizens.

Since his arrival at the White House on January 20, Trump and his cabinet have promoted immigration operations across the country, utilizing officials from multiple federal agencies to increase the number of arrests of illegal immigrants who have committed crimes and to execute mass deportations to their countries of origin.

According to figures published on social media X, ICE has detained more than 8,000 immigrants since the beginning of the administration.

The United States is conducting deportation flights and collaborating with countries in the region to curb illegal migration to its territory.

Tom Homan, appointed by Trump to lead immigration and border security policies, announced that deportations of immigrants to the Guantanamo Naval Base in Cuba will begin in 30 days.
