The Miami Beach Police recovered several stolen luxury cars valued at approximately $5.3 million as part of an operation that included three arrests.
On January 31, three individuals of Armenian origin were arrested for their involvement in a national organized crime scheme that focused on stealing and reselling high-end cars. The first report was of a stolen Rolls Royce.
"This case exemplifies the diligent investigative efforts of our detectives to identify and dismantle a complex criminal network specializing in the theft of luxury vehicles," said Police Chief Wayne Jones to Telemundo 51.
"To date, our detectives have collectively recovered approximately $5.3 million in luxury vehicles that were stolen through a series of investigations," he specified.
The police revealed that the criminals accessed the vehicle dispatch system, manipulated the delivery destinations, and redirected the cars. To do this, they deceived truck drivers and diverted shipments to fraudulent locations.
Christopher Bess, spokesperson for the Miami Beach Police, commented that this is a new and complex criminal trend.
"Our researchers have discovered and resolved something that many agents across the country are requesting assistance for. But we are not done yet. There are more pieces to this puzzle," he stated to Local 10.
The suspects were identified as 41-year-old Yuriy Korotovskyy and 43-year-old Hrant Nazarian, residents of Aventura, Miami-Dade, and 53-year-old Arman Gevorgyan, a neighbor from Van Nuys, California.
The three acted as the intermediaries who orchestrated the schemes. They face multiple charges, including grand theft, trafficking in stolen property, and conspiracy to commit organized fraud.
More arrests are expected to occur.
