For the second time in less than two years, a Miami Cuban has been arrested for operating an unlicensed surgical recovery house.
Mónica Beatriz García and her daughter Laura García, 24 years old, are under arrest accused of operating an unlicensed residence dedicated to the recovery of patients who have undergone cosmetic surgeries.
"These centers are operating without a license assigned by the state of Florida, and besides that, many of the individuals working in these establishments do not have the proper training and certification for patient care, as a doctor or nurse would have," said Ángel Rodríguez, spokesperson for the Miami-Dade Sheriff's Office, to Telemundo 51.
The detective recalled that García was arrested in 2023 for the same charges she is facing this time.
According to the Police, the entrepreneur offered services to recently operated patients for a price of hundreds of dollars a day, without having a license. She also disposed of medical waste such as bloodied gowns without using a biological risk container.
"It is a very complicated and complex type of research because we are examining legal issues, but more importantly, the health and well-being of the patients in these types of centers," Rodríguez noted.
Located in the southwest of Miami-Dade, the business is called Oasis Retreat Miami and offers stays for $2,600 per week, according to information from their social media.
Mónica Beatriz García was arrested in 2023 for illegally operating at least three recovery centers for cosmetic surgeries in Miami-Dade that offered lodging, 24-hour nursing services, and meals for $250 a night.
The police discovered that she was picking up patients from aesthetic centers and taking them to homes, where several employees were responsible for bathing, dressing, feeding, and administering medication to the patients who had undergone surgery.
On that occasion, she denied the accusations. A bail of $21,000 was set, but she was never prosecuted.
