Neighbors capture a thief in Havana and take back the stolen money

The thief had a concealed knife and was detained until the police arrived.

A group of neighbors in Havana caught a thief almost red-handed, as they managed to take back the money he had stolen.

The event was captured by a witness who shared it on their Facebook account.

A woman was shouting that the criminal had money on him that he had taken and also a hidden knife.

"That money is mine, buddy. You're crazy," the wrongdoer claimed, already with his hands tied behind his back, while a man kept him bent forward so she could search him.

The recording ends with the alleged thief sitting on the sidewalk while the victim makes a phone call, possibly to the police.

The author of the video did not reveal exactly where the events took place or what happened to the accused.

Recently, amid the rise in crime in Cuba, it has become common for citizens to apprehend thieves caught in the act or trying to flee after committing their misdeeds.

At the beginning of the month, neighbors in Santiago de Cuba captured a thief in the street, tied his hands, and left him immobilized while waiting for the Police to arrive and make an official arrest.

The incident occurred in the Petrocasas neighborhood and was recorded by a witness who sent the photos to the communicator Yosmany Mayeta.

"According to the person who sent the images, this is not the first time that this man has been caught by the neighbors and handed over to the police, who release him after a few hours," the journalist noted.

Many people in the post identified him as Orlando Padilla Palacio, known as Orlandito, an alcoholic with numerous records of theft, fraud, and other crimes in his area of residence.

In mid-December, residents of the 30 de Noviembre neighborhood, also in Santiago de Cuba, stopped a man who attempted to rob an elderly person and then tried to flee.

The incident occurred in an area outside the city center known as Los Camilitos, where "the thief snatched a backpack from an elderly man with a cane, and some neighbors chased him down and tied him to a post," Mayeta recounted.
