Three purchasing mistakes a Cuban made upon arriving in the United States: "I was scammed."

A Cuban woman in the U.S. shares her disappointments on TikTok after buying rice, sanitary pads, and budget toothpaste. She receives advice on higher-quality brands from other users.

A Cuban woman has not hesitated to share on TikTok three things that surprised her when she arrived in the United States, despite thinking they wouldn’t be an issue.

In the video, which has generated dozens of interactions on social media, Lisbet Tasé (@rayrad1017) begins by saying: "Three things I deceived myself about when I arrived in the United States. I thought I wouldn't have any problems with these things."

The first thing that stood out was the rice. The young woman recounted that in Cuba, she used to eat any type of rice, generally what she received through the ration book, without any particular preferences. However, upon arriving in the U.S., many recommended Jasmine rice to her, assuring her it was the best. Thinking any rice would be good, she bought another type and her experience was not the best: "If you don't buy Jasmine rice, the other types of rice are sticky, in little clumps. And I thought: what is this?"

His statement sparked a debate in the comments, with several users claiming that any rice can be cooked well if the water is measured correctly, while others suggested trying Basmati rice, which many consider to be superior.

On the other hand, she asserts that cheap sanitary pads are not effective. Another mistake she made was thinking that any brand of sanitary pads would be equally good. In Cuba, she used the popular Mariposa pads, so upon arriving in the U.S., she chose to buy the cheapest ones. However, the experience was disappointing: "I bought pads that don’t work. You have to pay attention; the more expensive ones are the best.”

Several users identified with her experience, sharing that they have encountered similar situations when trying more affordable and low-quality products.

And finally: The cheapest toothpaste is not always the best. Lisbet recounted that in Cuba she used Perla toothpaste, a brand that, according to her, barely foamed. She thought that in the U.S., any toothpaste would be superior, but she was in for another surprise: "I would pick the cheapest toothpaste and it didn't work. Perla was better than the cheap ones. I was scammed."

The video generated hundreds of comments from Cubans who have had similar experiences when facing the variety of products in the American market. Some echoed his complaints, while others offered advice on what products to buy in the future.

Among the most frequently mentioned recommendations in the comments were Basmati rice, toothpaste from well-known brands, and higher quality sanitary napkins, although they come at a higher price.
