A woman residing in Havana reported the murder of her dog by a neighbor, who hung it from a tree in retaliation because the animal entered his yard and killed some chickens that belonged to him.
In a post on Facebook, Yisel RA shared photos of her pet that had been hanged and accused her neighbor of the crime, whom she identified by the name Guillermo and described as a “heartless person.”

"Today is a very sad day for me because my neighbor Guillermito, whom everyone in the neighborhood knows, look what he did to my dog just because he came into his yard and killed some chickens. Do you think what that murderer did is right? That makes him a heartless person," Yisel wrote.
The incident sparked angry reactions from friends and close ones of the victim, as well as from others, against the act of animal cruelty and demanding that the responsible party be reported to the authorities and prosecuted by the justice system.
However, in the comments, a woman justified the crime by claiming that it was not the first time the dog had killed the neighbor's chickens.
Numerous people responded that no reason justifies the killing of an animal, and that the matter could have been resolved by compensating for the dead birds, while the dog's owner revealed that the woman is the daughter of the man who killed it, which is why she made that comment.
"Nobody knows how much I wanted that dog and the sacrifice I went through to raise it after they left it without a mother right after it was born," Yisel lamented.
The Cuban government approved in 2021 Decree-Law No. 31 on Animal Welfare, but the regulations are still not being fully implemented.
Once in effect, animal rights activists attempted to modify the text, arguing that the penalties did not align with the acts of cruelty that continued to occur in the country.
The National Animal Health Center recognized last September an increase in cases of animal abuse, evidenced by the growing number of reports on social media of inhumane and cruel acts, some of which result in the death of the animals.
