Woman beats a cat to death in Havana: "I will make a soup for the children"

Activists report a woman in Havana for brutally killing a cat to "make soup."

Cuban animal rights activists reported a woman who killed a cat by beating it in Havana to "make soup for her children."

The Facebook page "Animal Protection SOS - PASOS" posted the video of the incident, which took place in front of several neighbors who questioned the woman while she claimed she would make "soup for the children, soup for Luisito."

In response to the neighbors' complaints, the woman said she had already brought the dead cat, but the video clearly shows her hitting it against the sidewalk several times while the animal was still moving.

The Facebook group demanded justice for this "act of extreme cruelty against a defenseless being."

Add that the woman's name is Ana Selena Martínez López, residing at Casa Blanca, Animas #72, between San Antonio and San Ambrosio.

"This is not an isolated incident; it reflects the impunity that many animal abusers have enjoyed in Cuba. The Animal Welfare Law exists, but what good is a law if it is not enforced with the seriousness it deserves? We cannot continue to allow acts of torture against animals to go unpunished or to be met with symbolic, ridiculous sentences that only promote the recurrence of these crimes," the publication emphasizes.

The organization demands "a FAIR and EXEMPLARY punishment, not a mockery of justice," "that this aggressor receives the penalty established by law," and that "the violence against animals be treated with the seriousness it deserves."

"Every act of cruelty that goes unpunished is a message that violence is acceptable. IT IS NOT. Today it was this cat, tomorrow it could be another animal or even a person. Violence knows no bounds if it is not stopped in time," he notes.
