More than 2,500 people remain hospitalized for dengue in Cuba, one of whom is in serious but stable condition in Villa Clara. The number, while high, marks a decrease of 200 compared to last week.
The doctor Francisco Durán García, national director of Epidemiology at the Ministry of Public Health, confirmed on the television news that arboviral diseases (those transmitted by mosquitoes) are still present, although not with the complexity seen at other times.
According to Durán, active transmission has decreased. Currently, there is dengue in three provinces, four municipalities, and four health areas, while Oropouche is present in six provinces and seven municipalities.
"Undoubtedly, the conditions are present, and mosquito breeding sites exist. There are provinces with more infestation than others, such as Santiago de Cuba, Camagüey, and Pinar del Río, which maintain a high mosquito infestation, but practically all of Cuba is affected," he detailed.
The specialist urged not to neglect the fight against breeding sites, especially in areas close to homes.
He also added that respiratory viruses such as influenza and Covid are still circulating, but with very mild symptoms.
The doctor Francisco Durán updates the national epidemiological situation each week in the television segments of the official press.
Since January, it was noted that the spread of arboviral diseases, especially dengue and Oropouche, had decreased.
In December, there were transmissions in 13 provinces, with a high number of patients hospitalized and six cases reported as severe, located in two provinces.
